What's in a name?
Only an ignorant foreigner would pronounce the name of my hometown, Boise, as "boy-zee". Or, at least, that's the prevailing consensus among residents. I've heard these same people refer to New Orleans as "new or-leens", Moscow as "moss-cow", and the most god-awful bastardizations of Gloucester. (It's "glaw-ster" in case you're wondering) Nothing flags you as one of 'them damn foreigners' more than decimating the pronunciation of a local's town name. But, you know what is worse? Use some cutesy abbreviated title for their town. If you want to see a bevy of pussified hipsters get all puffed up with indignation, use the term "Frisco" when you visit the bay area in northern California. Those nutjobs are LESS offended if you called them Trump-fluffers...though still not advised.
