Ain't no pleasing some people
The Iowa governor just signed a law requiring all voters to provide legal identification: passport, driver's license, non-operator ID, or military ID. Liberals got all fired up, claiming it discriminates against low-income folks who cannot afford to pay the fee for an identification. So, Iowa is providing IDs free of charge--even waiving government record requisition fees if needed (birth certificates, citizenship records, etc.), making it truly free. Then the liberals claimed it discriminates against the people who forgot to obtain a valid ID. So, Iowa is allowing non-ID folks to vote anyway, with their ballots being verified later during the official counting to give folks time to get an ID after-the-fact in case they forgot. Then came the elderly and infirmed argument. Now Iowa is accommodating ID requests through the mail and on-line for the elderly and infirmed who cannot easily travel and folks who work during government business hours. Well, now liberals are saying the law is "racist". WTH? Free IDs are provided to any legal human simply for the asking--regardless of age, race, gender, color, or creed. Iowa is jumping through every conceivable hoop to help folks while ensuring fair and legal voting. But the liberals are still pissed...and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. Yes, I know the right-wingers' claim that liberals need illegal votes to win an election. I don't buy that crock of crap. But I'll be damned if can see a logical reason for the liberals' continued protestation when Iowa has bent over backwards to accommodate their every objection.
